So I went to my first ROTC information session
Got me so pumped about the whole thing! My folks thought it was a good idea too which was a relief. The only thing that was unsettling was there are way too many overweight/completely out of shape people trying to gain commission and way too many people in it for the scholarships and ONLY the scholarships. Just to clarify I have nothing against overweight people as I struggled with a weight problem for most of my life so I know the feeling. I just don’t think it would be appropriate to have military members that don’t qualify for the physical requirements. But overall it was a great experience and I’m looking forward to the registration in August.
EDIT: Air Force ROTC obviously… Detachment 560 Manhattan College

Believe me, every detachment has their share of overweight people but they never last longer than a semester.

I assume you can just tell that they are out of shape and you aren’t seeing PT scores or anything. The standards are weird. I haven’t made height/weight for awhile, but I still score a 99.8 on the PFA and pass tape.

In order to be selected for field training you have to be in shape and pass your pt test. Field training is after your second year in the program so they will weed the people out who shouldn’t be there.

Indeed, the first PT test tends to make a few people leave the program.

You have to pass PT tests to commission. You have to pass for field training. Generally, that weeds out the rif raf.
